How to start resistance training
With older adults, as with any other person, resistance training should start with what each program should start with, beginning with Stabilization. It helps you to control what you are lifting as well as any type of movement you are doing during a resistance training workout. Remember that it is critical for you to be able to maintain stability and control at all times to minimize the risk of injury, so be sure to start slow as needed to make that happen. Even if you have a loss in neuromuscular control, movement limitations, or frailty can still benefit from resistance training when it is properly applied.
Progressions require me to be creative in developing a program that you enjoy doing and is still challenging for you to keep coming back for more and still meeting your goals. If I understand the purpose behind a particular modality of training that you are used to doing, we can create programs at many challenge levels—and thereby meet your needs.
Please let me know how you can get started.
