We all want to feel good about ourselves but just getting in shape is something some would just do without. You can still make some adjustments in your life to lose weight, maybe get off of a medication you don’t like taking, or just want to feel better.
Start off with seeing your doctor and getting a physical which will include some blood work and get a base on what you have to work with. High cholesterol, high blood pressure, and your daily aches and pains are something you can fix by making small adjustments in your diet and/or lifestyle but still enjoy everything you like.
Getting some good quality sleep. You wouldn’t think that, but it affects everything you do when you’re awake. It affects your mood, concentration, anxiety, memory, and even the immune system. Sleep allows the body to heal, and repair itself in a way it simply cannot when a person is awake.
Exercise. Getting out and be active. Go for a walk, Play a round of golf, play some Pickleball, even getting some yard. Go for a 30 min walk a few times a week would be great. It all helps blood flow, your cardiovascular system, and of course your heart. It helps with stress and you feel rejuvenated when you finish, more relaxed and your ability to think clearly. Walking with someone or being active with someone can also help be accountable for what you do.
Little changes in what you do, will make a difference.
Mix up your meals with some healthier foods 2-3 times a week. This was the hardest thing for me, with my background, I could have Mexican food every day of the week. Now, I have more vegetables and fish and I love sushi. I still have Mexican foods, just not all of the time anymore. You can make a variety of healthy salads. Throw in some nuts, hard-boiled eggs, olives, tomatoes, cheese, and maybe some croutons, and top it off with a low-calorie salad dressing. I’m not saying you should have this every day but having something lighter during the week will make a difference. Everything is in moderation. Grill some fish or chicken with some veggie shish kebabs sounds great with a glass of white wine.
it is always a work in progress
Drink plenty of water, this also will curve your appetite and it’s good for you. plain water is still the best and healthiest beverage for maintaining a healthy body. It is the most natural cleanser for our organs and digestive system. Staying hydrated is crucial for the brain as well as for helping to flush toxins out through the skin (perspiration) and urine.
It’s a work in progress and it is definitely not something you can do overnight. Make small changes and it soon becomes your lifestyle, most important is to have some sort of consistency. Making healthy choices a part of your daily life will help you to reach your goals. And don’t keep things bottled up, talk it out, do some research on meditation, It helped me tremendously. Enjoy your life but be mindful of it.
